Do You Plan to Attend HKONJ 2 Saturday, February 9. 2008?
If you plan to attend the second annual rally and march, HKONJ 2, "Historic Thousands on Jones Street" beginning at Chavis Park and marching through downtown Raleigh to the state legislative building, feel free to post your comments.
Here's an overview of the Fourteen Point agenda. The 2008 rally includes a new agenda item on reducing prosecutorial misconduct and providing justice for all people in the criminal justice system.
Look in the right-hand corner of this web site for the list of links to more than 75 partners in HKonJ. If your organization would like to become an HKonJ partner, an official of the organization will need to write a letter to the NC NAACP saying your organization endorses the 14 points, and how the organization can participate throughout the year to promote the People's Agenda. Please include the name and contact information. of your organization's HKonJ People's Coalition Coordinator. The letter should be mailed (not e-mailed) to Amina Turner, NC NAACP, 114 West Parrish Street, Durham, N.C. 27701.
Watch and listen to the beginning of a nationwide movement, the first HKonJ rally, held in February of 2007 in Raleigh.

I'll be there. If you plan to attend, post your comments here, or click on the link below to join our Facebook group where you can network with other attendees on working for a progressive agenda in North Carolina all year long.

I will attend the HK on J2 simply because the time is now for change and only WE can be the agents that facilitate a new North Carolina and USA.

The WNC Peace Coalition would like to join others in endorsing this event, and we will be sending several members from Asheville to attend. There will be a bus from Asheville, cost is $35 and this is organized by the local NAACP.
Hope we have great weather!

I am an instructor at Cape Fear Community College and plan on bringing a group of students up to Raleigh for the HK on J. Can anyone make suggestions of how we can prepare, or what we need to bring. I've never attended a march and am not quite sure what is to be expected.
Thank you,
Suzanne

When Rev. Barber spoke to the Congregations for Social Justice in Raleigh, NC on Tuesday, 8 January 08, he spoke about a 14 point plan.
I think it would help me in promoting this event among my church congregants to be able to refer to that plan from this website.

We plan to bring a delegation of folks from the Social Justice Caucus at the UNC School of Social Work. Last year's event was so inspirational--let's make it even bigger and better this year!

I plan to attend the event. I am a candidate for a seat in the North Carolina General Assembly. District 58, located in Guilford County, while unique to some, is very akin to the same problems that many black communities throughout the state of North Carolina face. It is unique compared to other districts in our state where the majority of its citizens are not black. It resembles the unfortunate plight of communities throughout North Carolina. In District 58 we suffer with high violent crime rates, the highest drop-out rates in our high schools, higher suspension rates of our children and low high school graduation rates. But that’s not all!! We also have slum lords for landlords and people living in substandard housing because they can’t afford to move or, don’t understand their rights as a renter. With the lowest economic growth in our community how can the citizens of District 58 afford better? People from diverse backgrounds, philosophies and ideas HAVE to come together to bring change and justice!! In order to do that, we have to look carefully at the policies and procedures currently in place that affects OUR lives on a daily basis.
I look forward to meeting many of you on February 9.
