From the Hickory and Wilson Branches
The Martin Luther King Service will be at the First Baptist Church in Hickory on Sunday, January 18, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. The State Conference President Reverend Dr. William J. Barber, II will be the speaker.
The Youth will lead the parade on Monday, January 19, 2009 at 10;00 AM
The Hickory Branch will be observing an Inauguration Watch Service at the Ridgeview Recreational Center in Hickory, NC beginning at 11:00 a.m.
We will also celebrate the 100th birthday on Thursday, February, 12, 2009 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm.
From the Wilson Branch of the NAACP:
We will be celebrating this historic event by gathering on Inauguration Day at Little Bobbies on Nash Street across from Edwards Funeral Home. There we will watch the ceremony on wide screen TV and fellowship all day.
At 11:00 am we will start selling dinners of ribs, fish, or combinations. The plates will include string beans, potatoes and hushpuppies. Beverages will also be available for sale. We will remain for the parade and continue to sell plates until all food is gone. Rib plates will cost $7.00, combination plates will cost $6.00 and fish plates will cost $5.00. Beverages will cost $.50.
We will have a great time with fellowship and food. Also there have been a great number of persons who have withdrawn from attending the affairs in DC.
Seats are available for $35.00 to go to DC. The bus will leave at 10:00 pm on Monday and return leave dc at 4:00 on Tuesday. The funds must be paid to Sallie B. Howard School no later than Friday. The branch is only assisting in publicizing this information.

Anson County MLK Day Monday January 19, 2009.
Starting 9:30 AM at First United Methodist Church with a pray breaksfast and the March will start from their down hwy. 74 to Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, where the Dr. Williams Barber III will be speaking at 1:00 PM.
